Girl Scouts Stands Against Racism and Continues Pledge to Work for a Just Society for All
Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania joins the voices of our sisters around the country to express our sadness and outrage over the recent violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States. We also condemn the gender based violence associated with the attacks in Atlanta last week. Girl Scouts is a community where everyone is accepted, has a voice, and acts together to introduce innovation when there is injustice of any kind. We grow as leaders and as community when we connect with other people and value the power of diversity, and we are inclusive. We strive to ensure that every Girl Scout, every Volunteer, every Partner feels like they belong in Girl Scouting.
Our Girl Scouts came together recently for a Racial Justice Town Hall hosted by our Board Member, and I Heart Media Radio Host, Loraine Ballard Morrill. Thank you to our Board Membership Strategy Committee and Girl Advisors for planning such a thoughtful event. I hope you will take a listen, and consider having a discussion with your Troop, Friends, and Family about this important topic, and how we can all take action against racism. Please also take a look at the growing resources we have curated on our Racial Justice page, as well as the many resources on Girl Scouts Raising Awesome Girls page.
We are sending our love and our support to every member of our Girl Scouting community who feels threatened, insecure, or afraid. Our staff and volunteers will stand together in partnership to support girls’ questions and reactions to this violence, so they can learn how to deal with the traumatic events they see on TV and social media, and how to take action personally and collectively to make the world a better place. Please reach out to us if you need help.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
