International Observe the Moonlight
Nockamixon State Park
Friday, September 13 from 7:15-9 pm
*No registration required.
All Girl Scouts are invited to Nockamixon State Park Fishing Pier to participate in International Observe the Moon Night. Alongside park education staff, astronomers from the Bucks-Mont Astronomical Association, and your fellow scouts, you'll learn all about the moon: its phases, features, and mysteries. Peering through a telescope, you'll discover craters, mountains, and valleys--perhaps you'll be inspired to visit one day as an astronaut!
Notebooks at Nolde Forest
Nolde Forest
Saturday, September 15 from 2-3:30 pm

*No Registartion required*
Calling all Girl Scout scientists! Bring your notebook, pencil, and your Troopmates to Nolde Forest for our Notebooks at Nolde Girl Scout Science event.

Park at the Sawmill or North Pond Parking areas and hike to Teaching Station 6 (located at the intersection of the Watershed Trail, Boulevard Trail, and the Old Mansion Driveway) where staff will be waiting to give you your science assignment. This week you will be exploring how to make a nature journal page. You will borrow our supplies which will give you all the things you and your group need to work together to investigate the nature in the forest as a team. The only thing you need to bring is a notebook or drawing paper for each member of your group. This is a fantastic way for a troop to make their own nature scrapbook!

This is a free form activity: you may stop by any time between 2pm and 3:30pm to start the activity and take as long as you wish to complete it (we find that groups usually take between 5 and 30 minutes). We only ask that all materials are returned by 3:30pm. Registration is not required, but if you do plan on coming, it is helpful to register so we can make sure we have enough materials on hand.

Notebooks at Nolde events are designed to be self-guided activities where groups can borrow materials (including a step by step set of instructions) to help you investigate nature a little deeper through writing, drawing, and observation skills. While staff will be on hand if you have questions, these programs are meant for you and your group to explore together - both adults and kids alike! We recommend these group activities for ages 6 and up, but use your own judgement. While intended for groups to work together, these activities can be done solo, as well.

Event is open to anyone – you don’t have to be a girl scout troop to participate!

Monarch Tagging
Jacobsburg State Park
Sunday, September 15 from 1-3 pm

Register Here

This program is only for girl scouts and their families. Mid-September is the perfect time to witness migrating monarchs on their way to overwintering grounds in Southern North America. During this program you will have the opportunity to participate as a citizen scientist for Monarch Watch, a conservation and research program based at the University of Kansas. Participants will learn to catch, handle, and tag monarch butterflies. We will also discuss current conservation efforts and ways that you can help the species to thrive throughout its life cycle. Registration is required.
