Get Your Troop Data Ready for CEI!

As part of our council’s lead-up to the Customer Engagement Initiative (CEI), we are in the process of updating all troop and member information in our system and we need your help!

Please take a minute to log-in to the Online Registration System to review the following:

  • All active girls must have a Guardian 1. Girls without a Guardian 1 will have no household assignment in the new system.
  • All parents, members and volunteers in our system should have an active email address (it can be the same one for all family members).
  • All active troops must have a meeting location and address including a zip code.  We also need Troop Leaders to complete your troop grade level, meeting times, etc.
  • Other information such as girl grade, date of birth, address, and phone numbers should be accurate and up to date.
  • If you see that information is wrong and you are unable to update it yourself online (such as spelling of names), please email corrected information to memberservices@gsep.org by April 7th.

Important Note for Volunteers: Volunteers who have not submitted CBC paperwork or have pending status cannot access troop information. If you currently have an In Process status it is critical that you submit all of your CBC documentation no later than March 31 in order for your volunteer position to transfer to the new Volunteer System.

Register now for our March Enrichment Training – Inclusive Leadership: Disability Awareness and Your Troop

You’re invited!  Please join us for our next volunteer enrichment opportunity on March 22 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Shelly Ridge Service Center.

Gail Katch from the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit will speak about an extremely important and relevant topic – Inclusion Leadership: Disability Awareness and Your Troop.  This is a brand new training that will equip our troop leaders to better understand the types of disabilities and spectrums, the best language to use when talking about disabilities, and how to be sensitive and put people first. Plus, you’ll learn about the concept of presuming competence and how the idea can empower your girls at every ability level!

Also… coming up on April 20, join us for an evening at Villanova University with the Kappa Delta Sorority! Last year’s seminar Promoting Confidence in Girls in Today’s Society was a hit – and now they’re back for more!

This year’s workshop will be a continuation of the crucial topic – Continuing to Promote Confidence in Girls. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to hear first-hand from college-aged girls about the current societal landscape our kids are experiencing. Plus, how you can better prepare your girls to be confident leaders in their own lives, even through their formative years.

Girl Scout Voices Count!

GSEP is participating in an awesome country-wide opportunity to have your voice heard!

In early April, girls, parents/guardians, and troop leaders will have the opportunity to participate in the national Girl Scout Voices Count survey from GSUSA. The goal is to get useful insight into customer satisfaction and girls’ experiences with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. As we work to improve our council, we value your honest feedback and encourage you to participate in this survey

  • The survey will be open from April 3rd through April 31st
  • Unique survey links will be emailed to half (50%) of our GSEP membership, selected randomly by GSUSA
    • For our girl membership, one half – selected randomly by GSUSA – will be invited to participate in GSUSA’s survey. From the other half of our girl membership, those who participate in troops will be invited to complete GSEP’s Troop Year-End Survey

Please keep an eye on your email inbox for more information on how to participate. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Make Your Own Badge Site Closing

The Make Your Own badge site, created in 2011, was meant to provide girls with the option of creating a badge that they did not see offered in the national badge program. Unfortunately, the number of girls making their own badges has been decreasing since 2013. Instead, the Girls’ Choice badge process, now in its third year, provides a more effective method of reaching a larger number of girls.

To that end, the Make Your Own badge site will close on June 30, 2017. The design tool for Make Your Own will shut down on June 1, 2017. All Make Your Own badges must be submitted by this date.

Adult Camping Weekend 2017

GSEP is excited to host its 27th Annual Adult Camping Weekend on August 18-20, 2017 at Camp Laughing Waters in Gilbertsville, PA. The focus of this event is to raise money for the GSEP Older Girl Scholarship Fund. Contributions for the scholarship fund are raised through registration fees for the event as well as the silent auction. Last year’s silent auction was a great success because of supporters like you.

We need donations! Any item, large or small, would be greatly appreciated to include in the auction—whatever donation is meaningful to you, will be meaningful to us! Perhaps you might consider donating a “themed basket” from the Service Unit in honor of the past, present, and future older Girl Scouts of your Service Unit who may be recipients of the scholarships.

Your donation for the event will help GSEP provide financial support for girls across the nine counties it serves. Last year the event raised more than $10,000, we hope to match, if not exceed that total in 2017.

Have questions or need some inspiration? Please contact Sally Kinsey, Auction Chair, at sbearkinsey@hotmail.com or by phone at 610-383-7856. She can even help with theme ideas and provide the basket and wrapping if necessary!

The deadline for donations is June 12, 2017 to be included in this year’s auction. Thank you for your generosity!
