Outdoor Programming Master Plan – Board Approval

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, GSEP is focused on investing in the future of girls by building exceptional outdoor programming at our camp properties.  The Property Committee, with the assistance of Domokur Architects, devoted over twelve months of study to the development of the Master Plan to achieve this goal.

Master Plans were developed for Camp Mosey Wood, Camp Laughing Waters, Camp Wood Haven and Shelly Ridge. The Board unanimously approved the Master Plan Vision and commitment to outdoor programming as presented on September 27, 2012.

With the Boards approval of the Master Plan Vision, the board reaffirms its earlier decision that Camp Hidden Falls, Camp Tweedale, and Camp Tohikanee shall be divested from camp use. They shall be divested pursuant to the following schedule:

1. Divest from camp use at Camp Hidden Falls on September 30, 2012

2. Close Camp Tweedale’s Resident Camp at the end of the 2013 camping season (August 31, 2013)

3. Divest from camp use both Camp Tohikanee and Camp Tweedale no later than September 30, 2015

For more information and details about the Master Plan please visit www.gsep.org or view the following videos and presentation from the August 21, 2012 Town Hall meeting:  Video Part 1, Video Part 2 and PowerPoint presentation.

Sincerely,

Natalye Paquin

GirlzTri. GirlzDu. GirlzRule Postponed until Summer 2014.

The Triathlon and Duathlon scheduled for August 10, 2013 has been postponed until the summer of 2014.  Among the factors influencing this decision are the amount of preparatory work and additional funds and resources required by the Council to ensure flawless execution of the nation’s first-ever girls only triathlon.  Another factor is the need to ensure the safety of our Girls and their families who would be in attendance on the day of the event.  The postponement affords us the opportunity to develop specific programming around healthy lifestyles for our Girls leading up to a successful event in the summer of 2014.  To that end, the Council plans to continue working with the various community-based and non-profit organizations that had stepped forward to work with us.  With their continued support, the support of our volunteers, and the leadership provided by the Council, we are confident that the summer 2014 event will be a huge success for our Girls.

Sincere thanks are extended to all who were involved in the planning of the August Triathlon and Duathlon and to the volunteers who had expressed interest in supporting it.  Special appreciation is extended to Stacey Woodland, Philadelphia Region Membership Director, for her vision to bring this opportunity to the Council.  We look forward to the 2014 Triathlon/Duathlon and all we will do together to ensure its success.
