City home to first U.S.
Cambodian Girl Scout troop
By Melissa Dribben
Philadelphia Inquirer

Girl Scout Receives Medal of Honor for Rescuing Neighbors from Fire
Girl Scout Alicia Rohr, 10, of Troop 4911 in Greater Coatesville, was awarded the Girl Scout Medal of Honor, Wednesday, May 28, for her heroism in saving the lives of her next-door neighbors from a nearby forest fire. Ann Meredith, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP), during an evening ceremony at King's Highway Elementary School in Coatesville, presented Alicia with her medal.
Alicia is the first girl in the GSEP Council to receive this lifesaving honor. Lifesaving awards have been part of the Girl Scout program since the beginning of the movement in the United States. Lifesaving awards are a form of recognition given to a registered Girl Scout who has saved or attempted to save human life under circumstances that indicate heroism or risk of her own life. They are reserved for those Girl Scouts who have performed heroic acts beyond the degree of maturity and training to be expected at their age.
