Important Update Regarding Opportunity Catalog

The new membership year begins next week and it’s almost time for the Opportunity Catalog to go live. That means that interested and waiting girls will now be able to choose from a list of available troops near them when they register for Girl Scouts. Thank you to the more than 600 troops that have already opted-in and are eligible for prizes… be on the lookout for raffle results soon!

We have been listening carefully to feedback from troops that are concerned about the troop size listed in the Opportunity Catalog. We also reviewed recently published research on troop size from Girl Scouts of the USA’s 2016 national troop survey. In response to our volunteers and this compelling research, for the 2017-2018 Membership Year GSEP will allow troop leaders to select their desired troop size from a range based on the maximum adult-to-girl ratio described in Volunteer Essentials, as follows:

•       Daisies: 12 girls

•       Brownies: 15-20 girls

•       Juniors and Cadettes: 15-25 girls

•       Seniors and Ambassadors: 15-30 girls

NOTE: Troops may be larger than the stated range with additional volunteers; Multi-level troops will be set to the ratio for the youngest girls registered in the troop.

When the Opportunity Catalog goes live next week, your troop will automatically be set to the largest size according the maximum adult-to-girl ratio for your Girl Scout level. If you would like to change the desired troop size, you will need to update your troop information by following the steps below. This is also a great opportunity to make sure that your troop meeting information (date, time, and location) is up to date.

To make changes to troop information in MY GS:

  1. click on MY GS on the right side of the green toolbar at the top of the website.
  2. Select Member Profile from the drop-down list and enter your username and password. (If you need us to resend your login information, email memberservices@gsep.org).
  3. Click on Troops on the toolbar at the top, scroll down to the bottom and click on VIEW/EDIT TROOP INFORMATION.
  4. Enter the desired number of girls in the troop according the ranges above.
  5. Update/enter all other details to ensure your information is correct for the Opportunity Catalog.

You may begin requesting these updates immediately, but please be aware that your changes must be manually approved by council staff and will not be automatically reflected in the Opportunity Catalog. There may be a 1-2 week delay between when you enter your request and when the change appears in the Opportunity Catalog. In some cases, it may be possible for additional girls to register for your troop before your changes are approved. If this occurs, we will work with your troop to find a solution.

If you already submitted an Opt Out request, our Opt Out Committee will be in touch with you. It is not necessary to submit an Opt Out request unless your troop requests a troop size smaller than 12 for Daisies or 15 for Brownies and up. Those requests will continue to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you for your patience as we work to update the Opportunity Catalog with your requests. We look forward to making the Girl Scout experience more accessible for all girls who want to get involved.
