Hana Haseman grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, spending time exploring outside, getting messy, and enjoying nature. This upbringing led her to a life dedicated to getting people outside! While studying history and secondary education in college, she began working at summer camp and fell in love. She stayed at her first camp for seven years working as a counselor and moving up to an activity area manager, overseeing staff working challenge courses, hikes, and nature education. To continue her passion for teaching outdoors, she moved to Alabama to work at an environmental education center. Finally, she found an opportunity to come to GSEP and be the director at Laughing Waters. Her passion is to get young girls to camp and help them learn and grow.
With almost 500 acres to spread out in, Laughing Waters has a little something for everyone. There are opportunities to push your personal limits on our ropes courses and rock wall. You can try out new activities such as yoga, water aerobics, disc golf, horseback riding, and life sized Hungry, Hungry Hippos. Expand your artistic side with specific art programs, as well as themed arts and crafts projects, music programs, and nature art. Laughing Waters has other activities that will engage your excitement at every turn with archery, gaga, sports in the activity center, cooking, and a pool there is never a dull moment. Your week will be filled with excitement, adventure, growth, and connecting with other campers and the environment.
Laughing Waters is proud to have staff from all over Pennsylvania, the country and the world! Bringing together people of all backgrounds from across the world allows our staff and campers learn and experience new cultures and customs. Each year, the staff goes through a two-week training. Here they learn how to work with our campers. They learn games and songs, team building activities, conflict management, age level development, how to help with home sickness and much more. This training allows them to be prepped and ready to help our campers become girls of courage confidence and character that make the world a better place.
Staff 2017: “It was life changing and I truly enjoy mostly every moment. Because of camp, I learned that I love working with children”
Our favorite tradition
Laughing Waters had at least two all camp campfires each session, one to open our time together and one to close our time together. We sing songs, perform silly skits, and have fun, but we also have a special tradition called MAGI. MAGI, is when select group of our staff perform a trick over the fire to make it spark up. Its great fun and the more fun we have at camp the larger the fire becomes.
“She LOVES camping with the Girl Scouts and would camp all 7 weeks if she could. She also desires to be a CIT in the future which makes me very proud. She is still talking about the friends she made at camp!” ~ Parent/ Guardian of a 2017 camper
“The joy of seeing my daughter grow in confidence and through making new friends is so appreciated. I particularly think she's grown a lot from simply being around the phenomenal camp counselors for the past two summers. She used to be a bit more shy and reserved when it came to being around younger children, however when she volunteered to help with our church's VBS (Vacation Bible School) this past summer, it felt almost as if she was 'channeling' the positive & upbeat energy of her previous camp counselors! ;) She was so outgoing & positively engaged with the group of kids she worked with and creatively used humor to help make their experience more enjoyable. I have no doubt that her summer camp experiences have had a profound impact on her that will positively carry her forward. She is hoping to become a GS camp counselor herself and plans to enroll in CPA hopefully next year. Again, many thanks for providing her with such inspiration, positive role models and growth in courage, character & confidence!” ~ Parent/ Guardian of a 2017 camper
“My daughter came home more mature than when I sent her. She had an amazing time during her first overnight camping trip.” ~Parent/Guardian of 2016 camper
“I have been sending my daughters to CLW for the past 12 years, and their experiences have always been wonderful. They come home full of stories that get repeated all year long. Girl Scout camp at Laughing Waters is one of the building blocks in the foundation of their lives.” ~Parent/Guardian of 2016 camper
